Product Gap Review

Use when stepping back to ask "what's actually missing here?" — not for bugs, for whole-product blind spots.

User journey

  • First-time user landing → does the value prop register in 5 seconds?
  • Sign-up friction — how many fields, how many emails, any captcha?
  • First win — what's the smallest moment of "this works"? Is it surfaced?
  • Return user — is there a reason to come back tomorrow?

Trust signals

  • Real social proof (testimonials, counts, logos) — or vapor?
  • About/Pricing/Contact present and honest?
  • Legal: ToS, Privacy, refund policy?
  • Security visible (HTTPS, no mixed content, no exposed keys)?

Conversion path

  • Primary CTA visible above the fold on every page
  • Pricing page exists and is unambiguous
  • Checkout / signup works on mobile
  • Empty states guide the user (not just blank screens)

Retention hooks

  • Email capture before payment?
  • Notification/digest opt-in?
  • Onboarding sequence (even just 1 email)?
  • Reason to log back in (new content, streak, social)?

Operational

  • Support channel (email at minimum) listed
  • Status page or way to communicate outages
  • Refund / cancel flow doesn't require email war
  • Logs/analytics let you debug a user complaint without screen-share

Differentiation

  • One sentence answer to "why this vs. competitor X"
  • One thing you do that they don't (or do better)
  • One thing they do that you skipped on purpose — and you can defend it
